Why Your Phone Overheats During Games And What To Do
Heat is the silent enemy of mobile gaming. A warm phone throttles its own performance to protect itself, which means the stutter you're blaming on the game might actually be your device trying to cool down.
The biggest culprits are high frame rates and heavy 3D scenes, which is why racing and action games warm up faster than, say, a building sim. If a game offers a 30fps or 'battery saver' mode, try it — the visual difference is often smaller than you fear, and the smoothness over long sessions is better.
Charging while playing is a double whammy of heat. If you can, charge first and play after. And take the case off during long sessions if your phone runs hot; a lot of cases trap heat like a little blanket.
None of this means you need to baby your phone. Just know that if a game suddenly feels laggy twenty minutes in, heat is usually the reason, and a short break fixes it faster than any setting.
